Division Expectations

Division A Expectations

Division A Teams have a high level of expected participation and time commitment.  Please consider this when indicating your availability/interest to play on an A team if selected.

  • A Teams typically play 2 games during the week, practice 2 or more times per week, and often attend tournaments on weekends.
  • Players trying out for the A teams are expected to be available for tournaments including City Playoffs, 3-5 weekend tournaments (some out-of-town overnight), Provincial Championships, and possibly National or Western Canadian Championships which would extend the season until early August.
  • The financial commitment includes tournament fees. Teams often ask for startup player fees ($350+) and some teams fundraise.

Softball Sask and Saskatoon Minor Softball Association have made clear their expectation that teams who qualify through Provincials attend the Canadian Championships. The $500.00 performance bond is being implemented by the Hustlers as directed by Saskatoon Minor Softball Association to ensure attendance.  The top three ranked teams from Provincials do qualify for the Canadian Championships.

On the registration form the option to try out for the A team is provided along with providing confirmation of player availability. Information on the performance bond is also provided to ensure parents\guardians are aware of this commitment.  By checking yes to trying out for the A team and to dates available and accepting a position on the U15A or U17A team, then the performance bond requirements do apply. Should the team qualify for Canadian Championships (top 3 ranked teams in Provincials) then it is expected that the player will attend.  If a player backs out of attending then their performance bond will stay with the team and be used to help fund the player the team picks up as a replacement.

Division B expectations

Division B Teams:

  • play league games, plus a weekend playoff tournament and practice at least once per week.
  • Teams also play in at least two tournaments.
  • Divison B teams also have the option to play in Provincials, that if qualified, lead to Western Canadian Chmapionships which would extend the season until early August.
  • Playing on a Division B Team still requires a financial commitment including tournament fees.  Teams ask for startup player fees ($250+) and some teams fundraise.
