Season of Play and more!

Season of Play

Once Teams are selected, teams will have their first practices indoors.
League play starts on May 1 and ends around June 28th with the League Championship tournament.
Each Team will play 16 league games – usually 2 per week.
The Provincial Tournaments are held at the end of June or early July depending on age group.  All Division A and B Teams can play in Provincials.
Division A and B Teams are finished their seasons after Provincials with the expection of teams who qualify for National or Western Canadian Championships.

What time do games begin?

All league games are to start at 6:30 p.m. for Junior (U11, U13, U15, U17) leagues.  The league begins yearly, the first week of May. – Coaches will require players to arrive for pre-game warm up anywhere from ½ hour to 1 hour before start time. This will be decided at the start of the season by your coach.

Who sets up/tears down the ball diamond?

As the home team, parents are expected to set up the diamond. It is recommended to set out a schedule at the beginning of the season to cover off these duties. (Please do not include your coaching staff in this; they are already volunteering 3-4 hours that day without adding further diamond duties.)

When do games end?

U11, U13, U15 & U17 – Early to mid-May has an 8:45 p.m. curfew. TBD to end of season has a 9 p.m. curfew. There is no new inning started after curfew time. Games are max. 7 innings with mercy rules in play.

Who is the scorekeeper?

Home team will keep score. Similar to diamond duties, it is recommended to set out a schedule at the beginning of the season. It should not be the responsibility of the same individual each game. It’s easy to learn!

What is the “Jewelry Rule”?

There is a NO TOLERANCE TO WEARING JEWELRY rule.

All exposed jewelry must be removed. Exception: medic alert bracelet or chain.

Should anyone cover their ears with tape; the following procedure will be used. The umpire will ask if they are covering jewelry. If they answer yes, then the player must remove it before they can be allowed to play. If they say no then the umpire will let things stand. However, if the tape comes off during the game and jewelry is discovered, the following will be enforced. The player will be removed from the game and the coach who signed the lineup sheet will be ejected. This also may result in additional suspension for the coach.

How long is the season?

All junior & U11 League play runs from the beginning of May to the end of June. Some Jr. League teams going to provincials will run into the first or second weekend of July. Those heading to Westerns or Canadians will play into the second weekend of August.

We have registered but have not heard what team my child is on?

Div A teams will have been notified approx. 5 weeks after evaluations. This will depend on when the out of town evaluations take place. Div B will be notified as soon as coaching is in place and no later than the end of March of the given year.
