Change to U17 Female Softball Program

2024-01-19

Change to the U17 female program starting the 2024 season

Saskatoon Minor Softball League (SMSL) is extremely thrilled to communicate to our softball community some exciting changes coming to our U17 female program in the 2024 softball season.

SMSL is moving to a city-wide program for the U17 age group under the Saskatoon Selects Brand. As of 2024, all those involved in the U17 program will align under the Saskatoon Selects banner. All players wanting to be considered for one of the two A teams MUST be evaluated. Evaluations will take place through your zone evaluation time. SMSL is encouraging all players to be evaluated as this will help in establishing two A teams as well as, the possibility of, 4-6 B teams. SMSL will convene an SMSL U17 subcommittee responsible for putting all teams together based on the evaluation rankings of players. If you have any questions, please contact your zones for further information.

City-wide programs have proven successful in numerous other sports with the purpose of accommodating and elevating player development, providing highest level competition possible, along with fostering a foundation for continuance in sport. This model will provide players the opportunity to participate in a successful, positive environment that is developmentally appropriate, challenging and fun. SMSL believes that by moving to this model teams will be assembled in such a way to allow for strong and balanced competition.

SMSL and Zone representatives recognize that this is a significant shift in structure and process. This change will be evaluated after the season to identify plans and needs for the future seasons.
